About Masjid Abdul Muhsi Khalifah

Picture
Masjid Abdul Muhsi Khalifah is not only our beloved Masjid, but it is also a landmark building steeped in rich history.  From the 1920’s through the 1940’s, it was home to the Sonia Ballroom, frequented by such jazz luminaries as Duke Ellington, Andy Kirk, and Max Roach, among others.  In the 1960’s it was purchased by El Hajj Malik Shabazz (Malcolm X) and established as Temple #7C under the Nation of Islam. In 1975, it transitioned to Al Islam proper and flourished under the leadership and teachings of the late Imam W. Deen Mohammed.
